By implementing the Niagara processing plant for anthracite coal in harsh winter conditions the customer reached the output of 800 TPH
Because of the expected 40% expansion of global coal production by 2030, efficient coal extraction must go hand in hand with innovative processing equipment that meets all environmental protection standards. Focusing on that, we developed the Niagara F-Class DS, 2200 x 6500, for processing the highest rank of the coal — anthracite. Anthracite has the most amount of carbon — up to 97%. It contains the most energy and burns cleanly, with very little soot.
With this in mind, we designed a classifying solution that improves the material quality, increases efficiency and saves up to 60% of energy. Trusting us and implementing the F-Class DS, 2200 x 6500, in our customer’s coal operation, allows the plant to produce more than 800 tones anthracite coal per hour, with cut sizes of 13 and 25 mm and gran sizes of 0-80 mm.

The coal processing operator increased the product quality and successfully reached the maximum good particle yield by using the Niagara F-Class DS 2200×6500
In some regions of Russia, coal production is expected increase from 241 million tons to up to 370 million tons in the next years. To keep up with demand, operations need modern, sustainable and safe processing equipment for coal screening. As a leading provider of screening, pelletizing and primary crushing systems, Haver & Boecker Niagara delivers the best of these technologies to customers in the mining sector.
For this project Haver & Boecker Niagara worked very closely with the customer, active in the field of coal processing, and realized this semi-mobile screening plant for coal processing in Russia. Thanks to our two eccentric screening machines of type F-Class DS 2200×6500 our customer reached an outcome level of the feed material up to 2700 t/h by gran sizes of 0-80 mm and cut sizes 13 & 25 mm and his requirements for increased product quality and maximum good particle yield are successfully fulfilled.

Innovations in Coal Pelletizing
Many industries generate dust, which either is a reusable substance (e.g. coal dust) in itself or still contains reusable substances (e.g. dust from metallurgical processes). To enable the reusable substances to be handled or to be recovered from dust, the dust has to be agglomerated; the experts refer to this as grain enlargement or transformation into lumps. The processes involved are granulation, pelletization or compaction/briquetting, depending on the specific application.
The investigations by HAVER ENGINEERING have demonstrated that it is technically feasible for fine materials such as dusty hard coal fractions to be transferred in particle sizes, which do not generate dust. Improvements in the characteristics of the material resulting from agglomeration in the Niagara pelletizing disc Scarabaeus, such as a uniform particle size distributions for the granules, improved flow and spreading properties, prevention of demixing, permeability adapted to requirements and very good dosing accuracy, open up new areas of application.
A typical example is the mixing/coating of finely dis-persed iron ore concentrate with bentonite. In this case mixers are run with fill quantities of 12 m³ in a continuous process with a throughput rate of up to 1200 t/h for months without interruption; thanks to the improved distribution it was possible to drastically reduce the amounts of bentonite used. In sizes of up to 15 mm the pellets have uniform strength, which is what is required for use in blast furnaces or direct reduction processes.
