Our Strategy: The Most Efficient Pelletizing Technology For Mining and Processing

Resources are finite: no matter how generous the planet’s pantries are, the reserves of minerals will sooner or later become scarce. This harsh truth, which many industries have to face, has long become a determining factor in the choice of technologies and equipment in the mining industry: today the possibility of obtaining the highest quality product, even from raw materials from depleted or low-grade deposits, comes to the fore.

In modern conditions, manufacturers of equipment for mining and processing, in addition to direct manufacturing, must also ensure control over the process of creating a technological chain to ensure the quality and volume of the resulting product at all stages of production. In addition, when choosing equipment suitable for technological processes, tests with the subsequent development of technological regulations are mandatory.

According to our strategy: development and implementation of the most efficient technologies for mining and processing, our company Haver & Boecker Niagara cooperates and is also an   exclusive partner  for NPO RAKURS LLC , Scientific Production Association.

Our strategy in pelletizing

Haver & Boecker Niagara pelletizing equipment stands out against the backdrop of the richest range of separation and classification solutions. For almost a century of existence of pelletizing technology in metallurgy, it is difficult to come up with something new, however, Haver & Boecker Niagara specialists find innovative solutions that provide this method with maximum efficiency.

The initial field of application of the pelletizer is the pelletizing of iron ore concentrates into pellets with a specific size, from 9 to 16 mm. The principle of operation of this device is simple: in an inclined cylindrical rotating plate, with or without a binding liquid, pellets are formed from a powdery material. The raw material is brought to the condition by automatically setting the optimal operating parameters by changing the angle of inclination, rotation speed, and also by adjusting the height of the side of the plate, which turned out to be a decisive factor in fine-tuning the process. This is what led to the development of exclusive solutions.

Scarabaeus Pelletizing Discs have no analogues in the world

One of the company’s new products, the HAVER SCARABAEUS 7500 pelletizing disc, was manufactured in only two copies and, together with NPO RAKURS LLC, delivered to FERREXPO (Poltava Mining PJSC, Komsomolsk) and METINVEST HOLDING (Central GOK PJSC, Krivoy Rog ). These pelletizers have no analogues in the world: their peculiarity lies in a variable board height to obtain narrow grades of pellets with increased strength characteristics, while the productivity is up to 150 t/h for the finished product.

In addition, the pelletizing disc is equipped with a video monitoring system for the granulometric composition of the pellets and a local automatic control system: thanks to the supplied set of equipment, the HAVER SCARABAEUS 7500 operates in a fully automatic mode and exactly reproduces the pellet class set by the company’s technologists. The new equipment makes it possible to obtain more homogeneous raw pellets (in the size range of 10–14 mm), which increases the gas permeability of the layer on the roasting machine and subsequently, when using fired pellets, improves the process in blast furnaces and shaft furnaces.

Today, the HAVER SCARABAEUS 7500 is made in only two copies, but soon ten more pelletizing discs will join it, the purchase of which is now a priority from mining and processing plants for the reconstruction of pelletizing factories, as well as the construction of new ones. Compared to drum pelletizers with a circulation of up to 300%, the HAVER SCARABAEUS 7500, due to fine tuning, allows a circulation of 50 to 20%, which significantly reduces the cost of the finished pellet.

During the work on the project, the specialists of Haver & Boecker Niagara and NPO RAKURS LLC gained invaluable experience in the installation, adjusting and commissioning of the newest pelletizer: for example, to take into account all process parameters, the rest of the shop equipment was linked to the local system control SCARABAEUS. But thanks to close cooperation, Haver & Boecker Niagara and NPO RAKURS LLC managed to implement all the solutions, no matter how complex they may be, when performing basic and detailed engineering, as well as controlling the construction of a chain of equipment, supervising installation, adjusting, commissioning.
